Parkinson’s Awareness Month

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month. Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a neuro degenerative disease that impacts movement. The messages going from your brain to your muscles become interrupted and reduced in number. Exercise has long been studied as a prescription to help reduce the impact PD has on these messages. Our body is designed to respond to activity and learn to improve from repetitions of that activity. As Kinesiologists, we study diseases such as PD because of their impact on movement.

A Kinesiologist has the research background and training to develop key targeted exercises to help reduce the symptoms of PD and manage the movement limitations. The more you move the better you’ll feel. We can provide one on one sessions to develop and build an exercise program you can do at home or in our centre. We are also partnered with the local Parkinson’s Support group to provide an exercise class that operates out of the Older Adult Centre within the YMCA. The class schedule is listed on our website.

We look forward to helping you manage your PD symptoms!
